Week of June 4 - 8th

Hi Class,

This week we will be continuing with Ch.13 on banking. Last week we looked at the difference between chequing and savings accounts, types of transactions, current accounts, bank plans, and writing cheques! You learned how to properly fill out a cheque, about stop payments, staledated and postdated cheques, as well as how to keep an up-to-date balance in a cheque register.

This week you will learn about 'holds' on cheques, the cheque-clearing process, MICR encoding, NSF cheques,and the many other banking services that banks provide, such as:

• direct deposit
• preauthorized debits
• money orders
• drafts
• traveler's cheques
• loans
• lines of credit
• credit cards & revolving credit
• foreign currency
• safety deposit boxes
• nightly depositories
• online/telephone banking

There is a fair amount of information to cover this week, but we should be able to get through it all by mid-week. Be prepared for a chapter test on this soon. We'll discuss a date, but it will likely be this Friday or next Monday at the latest.

We have one more chapter to study...Ch.14-Credit before the final exam. We will look at and set a date for that too. Please be in class on time and ready to learn!
