Week of May 22nd - 26th

Hi Class,

Last week we looked at compound interest, the Rule of 72 and the calculations for those. We also studied the 5 common types of savings plans: savings account, Term Deposits, GIC's, RRSP's and RESP's. This coming week we'll be looking at different types of investments. While saving and investing are closely linked and very similar, there is a distinct difference. Saving is simply putting money aside for future use, whereas investing is locking money away for the purposes of making more money.

One of the main types of investments is stocks, so this week we'll be looking at the stock market. I'll explain how it works, as well as how to read a stock quote. You'll then have the chance to go online and look up stock quotes yourself. I'll also show you a video on saving strategies.

As investments is the last section of this chapter, you can expect a chapter test on it in the near future. However, we will have to see how far we get this week. The test will either be Friday or next Tuesday. We'll discuss it together as a class!

Don't forget current events presentations this week!

See you in class!
