Week of Dec.12-16th

Hello my Business Ed'ers,

First thing on Monday your Advertisement Analysis assignment is due. We will then briefly review what we started studying on Friday:
  • 3 reasons why people save
  • 3 benefits of savings accounts
  • simple vs. compound interest
  • how interest compounds faster the more often it is calculated (daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc.)
We we will continue on in Ch.11- Saving & Investing, and be learning about different types of savings accounts and investment types. We will be learning about the 'Rule of 72' and the stock market as well. As previously mentioned, you will definitely be needing a calculator for this chapter and for the rest of the unit, so please remember to bring one to class. I have a video to show you on saving and investing as well.

As this is a rather large chapter, we likely won't get through all of it this week, but we will do our best. Depending on where we get to this week, we may start watching a Christmas movie on Thursday. If not Thursday, then Friday for sure we will watch one so now is the time to ask you, which movie would you like to see? The movies I have to choose from include:
  • Elf
  • How the Grinch Stole Christmas (classic cartoon version)
  • How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Jim Carrey version)
  • Home Alone
  • A Christmas Story (little boy and his red rider rifle)
  • One Magic Christmas (mother who doesn't believe in Christmas or Santa)
  • Polar Express (animated with Tom Hanks)
Please vote for ONE of these movies in the poll I've created at the top of my blog!!

Now Playing in C125....

Thanks for voting and see you in class!

Week of Dec.12-16th

Hi Everyone,

First thing on Monday your Advertisement Analysis assignment is due. It was assigned a week ago and you had some class time to find an ad and work on it so they should all be handed in on time. I look forward to seeing them soon. I'll also return your business cartoon assignments and your Ch. 9 tests as well.

Don't forget to get your cartoon and "What Was I Thinking?" worksheets in if you haven't already.

This week we will be continuing on in Ch.11- Saving and Investing. Last week we learned the reasons why people save, as well as the benefits of savings accounts in financial institutions. We also studied simple and compound interest. This week we will briefly review that before we continue looking at different types of savings plans, as well as different types of investments. You will learn about the "Rule of 72" and the stock market as well! You will need a calculator for this entire unit so be sure to bring one!

We will watch a Christmas movie the last day or two, depending on how far through the chapter we get this week.

Tuesday and Friday we will have our final current events presentations of 2011.

It will be an interesting and hopefully fun week. See you in class!

Week of Dec.5-9th

Hi Class,

This week will be a busy one. Your Business Cartoon is due Monday, Dec.5th. As you've had over two weeks to do this, plus class time to work on your rough draft, I expect them all to be handed in on time ;) Most of you have shown me your rough copies and they were looking very creative and interesting. I look forward to seeing the finished products! Remember, your cartoon must:
  • Clearly indicate the topic/concept you are illustrating (This means have a title!)
  • Include drawn or computerized images that clearly and cleverly illustrate the issue/concept
  • Be colorful and on plain white paper
  • have labels on all important characters or buildings/stores
  • have clear thought or speech bubbles for your characters that demonstrate the issue
  • Include a point- this means shows a cause-effect sort of relationship
  • include a clear written explanation of the business concept/issue that tells me what your cartoon represents and defines the issue
  • include the mark sheet stapled to your cartoon
Example:
On Monday and Tuesday (double block) we will be reviewing Ch.9 in preparation for the Chapter Test on Wednesday Dec.7th. This essentially gives us 3 classes to review which should be more than enough time. I'll also be giving you an "Ad Analysis" assignment. I'll explain this in class and will give you until Monday, Dec.12th to complete it. In the meantime we will be moving on to the next unit of the course- Personal Finance. We will be looking at Savings & Investments, Banking, and Credit for the remainder of the course. You will now need to bring a calculator to class everyday!

    See you in class!
